Justice League vs. Avengers

Since the Avengers movie has come out I have been hearing more and more about the Justice League and how much better they are.  Now I am sure this has been done before and will probably be done again but I want to put my idea forward about an Avengers vs. Justice League battle.  In my scenario, I will use the teams with their “founding” members plus Hawkeye.  I am doing this because there are 7 from Justice League of America and only 6 from the Avengers so instead of removing someone from the Justice League it’s easier to add him, as he was the next member of the Avengers, to keep the numbers even.
Let us get this fight started with the star of the Justice League Superman.  Since this is my fight I get to determine that match ups and for Supes I am going with Thor.  This is not really so far off an idea though, both seem to have a moral ideal that is visible, and both are “alien” not trying to use this as Thor is an alien but you have Superman from a different planet and Thor from a different realm.

In this fight, you have to expect some massive amounts of damage.  Two crazy strong people with near invulnerability to Earthly weapons.  So Superman can fly, has super strength, heat vision, ice breath, and everything else imaginable.  All Thor has his hammer.  Of course, this hammer gives him control of lightning storms and other crazy powers.  In his 60s incarnation if Thor was separated from his hammer for too long he would revert to his alter ego, a definite weakness.  However, Superman has his own weaknesses.  Kryptonite not likely to be found his other weakness must be exploited and that is his weakness to magic.  Since Thor's powers are derived from magic, he kicks Supes ass.
Winner: Thor
Next, up I am pitting Iron Man against Batman.  This seemed like a good match up because of their alter egos.  Tony and Bruce are both billionaire playboy types without their own powers.  So instead, they use their fortunes to make gadgets to aid them.

Now immediately there are going people that say Batman because they are fucking obsessed and want to suck him off but this is not a popularity contest.  So both of these people are super smart and deal in gadgets to fight.  Batman always seems to have just the right thing for the job.  Iron Man’s armor is top of the line with all kinds of weapons and defense systems in place.  In a fight I would expect Batman to try some kind of EMP or something to shut down Iron Man because seriously that would be the only chance he has.  Of course, I am sure Tony is not stupid and people would have tried that before so he would have a way to counter that.  Even so at this point, his armor was not fully electronic so he could still fight.  Therefore, Iron Man demolishes Batman and all his little toys then commences a corporate takeover of Wane industries.
Winner: Iron Man

For Green Lantern I have put him up against Wasp.  I did not want to have the only two female characters fight each other so while trying to think who would match up well I could not help but think of Hal with a Fly swatter construct.
This fight would be funny to see just because of all the different constructs Hal would be making to fight this little bug person. Now if we allow Wasp one of her many costume changes she simply needs to put on a nice yellow uniform and game over.  None of Green Lanterns constructs would have any affect.  Then she could shirk down in order to get under the ring and remove it then he is just a normal person.  However, staying with her original costume, which was red, Green Lantern could swat and capture her.
Winner: Green Lantern

Hulk vs. Flash is the next match in our battle.  Why did I pair these two up?  Well, because I can, and they are good opposites to face off.  Flash is fast and Hulk likes to smash.

These two people are very different while they are both scientist in their alter egos as superheroes Flash is still really smart while Hulk is much more of a brute.  If Hulk could get his hands on Flash he could probably crush him and fight over, but that would be hard to do.  Flash does not have many weaknesses aside from being tripped or losing traction while his abilities are crazy.  Flash can reach past light speed, vibrate through objects, and is apparently invulnerable to blunt trauma.  Hulks best bet would be to destroy the ground around him causing Flash to lose his balance and catch him.  I do not see that happening so in my scenario Flash runs circles around Hulk causing Hulk to knock himself out.
Winner: Flash

Up next, we have Martian Manhunter vs. Hawkeye.  I did not really have a reason for this match up other than they were they only ones I had left.
Martian Manhunter is basically an overpowered Superman.  He has strength, speed, alien durability, plus all kinds of mental powers.  On the other hand all Hawkeye has are a bow and a bunch of arrows.  This fight should be easy enough for Martian Manhunter to win with all his powers but he does have a serious weakness to fire.  The problem then is the fact that Hawkeye has so many fucking types of arrows, including explosive, flare, and magnesium Flare arrows all of which would all cause immediate defeat of Manhunter.
Winner: Hawkeye

Our 5th fight will be Wonder Woman vs. Ant-Man.  This match up came about because I said before I did not want to go to obvious and have the two females fight and since Hank would not have a problem beating up woman like the other Avengers this seemed logical.

In this final battle, we get Wonder Woman who has superhuman strength, and agility as well as her bracelets and lasso.  Ant-Man has the ability to shrink (or grow if allowed to go into issue #2) and control ants.  Wonder Woman does have an interesting weakness where if her bracelets are bound together she is submissive to the person who did it as well as to piercing weapons.  Ant-Man though is just human and would not likely be able to take her down.
Winner: Wonder Woman

Finally, we have Aquaman vs. Captain America.  While I was strongly considering putting Thor up against Aquaman for a ton of reasons, I had to go with my second choice of Cap.  The only reason I have for this choice is they both spent a lot of time in the ocean.

Since there is not much comparison for me between the two I will make this quick.  In or around the water Aquaman wins no question.  With significant distance from the water, it is a much different story.  In the 60s when Aquaman was reworked having to return to the water every hour or he would die.  Without fish to command, Aquaman would be left with his super strength and durability.  Captain America would have his superhuman strength and agility as well as his shield.  I would say these two are at comparable levels of strength, which would lead to a long fight.  With Aquaman’s need for water, this leaves him at a disadvantage.
Winner: Captain America (if away from water)

That’s 4 to 3 Avengers win!

Of course, this is all assuming one on one fight.  If we mix it, up a little bit and go full team battle let, us see what happens.
Iron Man hacks Batman’s computer system and gets all the files that Batman keeps on the justice League members.  This includes all their weaknesses and how to fight them, you know cause, Batman is a dick like that.  So knowing Batman keeps kryptonite to defeat Superman the Avengers get ahold of that effectively eliminating him.  This frees up Thor to just fry Aquaman and his fish friends.  Then Cap can help out Wasp and distract Green Lantern long enough for Wasp to get Hals ring.  Since it would not have taken long to dispatch Aquaman, Thor could then be helping Hulk by electrifying the ground to stop Flash.  Hawkeye could still take out Manhunter by himself with one arrow.  Then with only Wonder Woman, remaining the Avengers could simply overpower her. And again Avengers win!

If you have a different idea of what would go down leave it it the comments below.

  1. The pairings are stacked to make an Avengers win easy. I don't have a problem with the outcomes from your fights, but I'd see it more going down with:
    Superman v. Thor
    Batman v. Captain America
    Green Lantern v. Iron Man
Martin Manhunter v. Hulk (although you could swap him and Supes out)
    Aquaman v. Wasp
    Wonder Woman v. Ant-Man
    Flash v. Hawkeye

But, like I said, it's your setup so I could see it going down like you had. And if you are going to let Iron Man hack Bats' files, who's to say that Batman wouldn't have created a virus to disable his systems if he tried.

  2. Yea it was difficult for me to decide who to match up.

The point on the virus is interesting I could see that, but still hold that Iron Man is smarter than Batman so he wouldn't have too much trouble.

I doubt we would ever see a truly objective match up of these teams though it would be crazy.

    thanks for the comment.

  3. From your pairing-- From the time frame that Chance Mention when these battles occur it would go donw like this.

    Thor = God
Bats vs Cap = I think Bats would not use his belt and face Cap in a real 1 v 1--Victor Cap.
    GL = Win
MM vs Hulk--If MM cannot use his telepathy, then Hulk has it in the bag.
AM vs Wasp--Wasp. If AM cannot be near water then this goes to Wasp, she can just stay in the air. Plus its Aquaman.
    WW vs AM = WW
Flash vs Hawkeye = It could go either way.

    Marvel is still stronger.

  4. Why wouldn't Bats use his belt? He has no problem fighting dirty. He hacked Prometheus' helmet and turned him into Stephen Hawking, so using every trick isn't an issue.

And why couldn't Manhunter use his telepathy? If he can't use that, then Hulk can't use his fists.

A lot of your battle require DC characters to be at a disadvantage from the beginning. And that isn't really an equal discussion.

Yes, Chance, this is always going to be a subjective discussion. Like "Who Would Win? Goku or Superman?" It's something that gets nerds in a tizzy, but there is never going to be a real outcome.

    1. Yea DC gave specific weaknesses to their characters at that point. Whereas Marvel didn't seem to make it overtly obvious. I think more of the weakness from the Avengers team is that they are humans.

  5. I like that you made non-traditional pairings. It's more fun to see what creative way a lesser powered individual could defeat the big guys.

Speaking of Wasp, if she snuck up on any of these guys, couldn't she just go up their nose and scramble their brains to mush? I think she could beat everyone besides Superman. His nose hairs would probably cut her in half.

    1. Also Ant-Man could control a bunch of fire ants and do the same thing.
There are all kinds of ways for these people to beat one-another.

  6. @Chip

I could see that working on everyone except Superman, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter. Superman's nose hairs probably do own here, GL has a personal force field keeping her out, and it's hard to sneak up on a telepath.

  7. Timeframe, we are talking 60-70's era.
MM uses telepathy--He win auomatically. DUH, with anyone with some sort of mind powers.

    Superman always wins against Anime.

Chip, your the best. Gore is the best.

  9. In the 60's-70s, Superman was basically a god. He had tons of powers and could close a black hole by himself, as an example.

It's why after the Crisis Supes was extremely depowered. Like I said, it's a subjective debate.

Last time Superman and Thor fought, Supes beat the shit out of him...so...

    1. You cannot destroy a god. In the end you can kill Superman. End point.

It's not subjective either when the fact are in the issues, even when their powers are debuffed--it's part of the collection of powers they have or used to have.

      And anyone could crush Aquaman--Aquabitch.

    2. Well last time Superman and Thor actually fought, Supes won....in the issues.

  10. I think we should bring the Spot into this. He could just teleport everyone's head somewhere else from a distance.

  11. Ah, the Spot. Dimensional holes, but can't punch worth a damn.
